quiet holiday

May 2006

She said,

"A life ain't lived if it ain't lived desperate

I can't stand entropy

Without the trials and the tribulations
and the manufactured disasters
the one wrong move and everybody gets to see what you've kept sacred
without the equal measure of pain for pleasure
there's no such thing as a life less ordinary."

She said,

"It's a different kind of Hell
to be unfettered by the shackles of
secrets and lies and
the stolen words of
wise dead men;

a different kind of Hell,
this freedom from all your worries
and all your torments
and all the broken-hearted promises you make
the promises you make because they're impossible to keep;

a different kind of Hell
to know I never hurt you
because you never loved me."

She said,

"I was born with my eyes open."

She said,

"Everyone needs a quiet holiday
away from their hopes and wishes and fondest dreams
if you have a reason to breathe
then try to be breathless
and remember that sometimes
nothing can be good for something
and something can be good for nothing."

She said,

"Don't tell me you've waited for me all your life;
you'll only love me when I'm gone."

She said,

"Let's pretend we never met
and if it's easy
then we can make a habit of it."

She said,

"I like oranges and the rain
the sickly-sweet smell of cider
the way little children will believe anything you say
before they learn to lie
and most of all
I like the sound of your voice
when you think you're the only one in the room."
